Cultural Consultant: Black & Queer Representation in Film & TV
What I do
Script and story consulting on Black and/or queer characters, arcs, and worlds. Flagging tropes, historical inaccuracies, and missed nuance before they go to camera. Development stage input for writers’ rooms and script notes. One off consult calls for smaller creative questions.
How I work
I bring three things together: lived experience as a Black, queer person, formal study of difference and inequality, and a research driven writing practice that traces how race, gender, and power actually show up in culture, historically and on screen. I’m not here to sanitize a story or hand out a pass. I’m here to make it true.
Selected work
Denim: The Griot of Textiles, a published essay tracing Black history through the material history of denim, from Kofar Mata to Karl Kani. Click here
On Babygirl, a critical essay on race, gender, and power in the film’s depiction of its lone Black character, drawing on hooks, Baldwin, Lorde, and Crenshaw.
