The Cook Out

What is

“The Cook Out”?

The Cookout’ & Its highly exclusive guest list are an aspect of black culture that has been memed and mythologized into utter infamy. In reality the cookout was an integral element of my and so many others’ youth growing up black in America.
While I can’t invite everyone to the mythical theoretical ‘cookout’, I can invite listeners to experience what ‘the cookout’ sounds like: 70s, 80s, and 90s oldies, funk, r&b.

Why “The Cook Out”?

Ohio, with my hometown, Cincinnati, at its heart, stands resolute as the veritable epicenter of funk, where musical luminaries sculpted the soundscape with elegance and innovation.

The cookout is a love letter to the people, the city, and the culture who raised me.

The cookout is an homage to funk, R&B and the legends who came before me.

I am a writer, a selector, a voiceover artist and a producer. The Cookout is a radio program where all those parts of me congregate in the most heartfelt ways.

With thanks to Louis Swain, who aired the first broadcast on Kerry FM in Berlin.
